Golondrina doméstica (Gray breasted martin)

La golondrina doméstica (Progne chalybea)o Andorinha-grande en Portugués, es una golodrina de gran tamaño.
Pueden observarse desde México, America Central y hasta el centro de Argentina.
Anida en cavidades de edificios o viejos agujeros de carpinteros, ponen de 2 a 4 huevos, los incuban entre 15 a 16 días y el período de crianza dura 22 días.
En estado adulto mide 18 centímetros de longitud, tienen la cola bifurcada y sus alas son relativamente amplias, pesan 39 gramos.
El macho adulto es de color negro azulado brillante, la garganta blanca y el vientre grisáceo.
Las hembras son mas apagadas que el macho, y los juveniles tienen el dorso de color marrón pálido.
La Golondrina doméstica es un ave muy gregaria, cazan insectos en vuelo.


The Gray-breasted Martin, Progne chalybea, is a large swallow.
They can observed from Mexico through Central America south to central Brazil south in South America to central Argentina.
The Gray-breasted Martin nests in cavities in banks and buildings, or old woodpecker holes. 2-4 eggs are laid in the lined nest, and incubated for 15–16 days, with another 22 to fledging.
Adult Gray-breasted Martins are 18 cm in length, with a forked tail and relatively broad wings, and weigh 39g. Adult males are a glossy blue-black with the grey-brown throat, breast and sides contrasting with the white lower underparts. Females are duller than the male, and juveniles have dull brown upperparts.
Gray-breasted Martins are gregarious birds which hunt for insects in flight.
